PostDoc Computational fluid dynamics of demersal fishing nets
Train your CFD skill set? Work in a consortium with high-tech experts.Become a developer of an advanced submerged & seabed system? Work on the sustainability of (aquatic) food supply for mankind?
JOB DESCRIPTION
The vacancy is part of the NWO program Research Towards Sustainable Fisheries project Numerical modelling of demersal fishing net systems for design optimization (FishNetSim). This is a close collaboration with Delft University of Technology, Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) and experts from the demersal fishery sector. The task of the postdoc is to derive adequate representations of varies types of fish net panels and demersal fishing gear elements by using state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics techniques (CFD). These representations will be used in a fluid-structure model of the entire catch system that will be developed by researchers of MARIN. A second postdoc position is defined to derive an adequate representation of the seabed resistance of the net and fishing gear elements. In this way a model is developed that can simulate the dynamics of demersal fishing nets and the seabed interaction.
REQUIREMENTS
Need-to-haves: Proven experience with computational fluid dynamics
Nice-to-haves: Experience with Fluid-Structure interaction, advanced turbulence modelling, parametrization or experience with submerged & seabed systems.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Fixed-term contract: 1 year.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (salary indication: €3.491-€4.402).
